Labor Day Laughs

with

Jacqueline Kabat

August 31-September 1, 2008

By practicing the basic rules of improvisational comedy, you begin to walk a path toward a spiritually satisfying life. Improv has become a wisdom tradition of its own and its teachings can unleash the best in us. Doing comedy improv is synonymous to life. We can tend to feel a little off-centered and unsure, but in the act of balancing we become alive, get up, do something, try it out, make mistakes, play, laugh and try it once again. This form of expression allows us to reach beyond ourselves in our conventional lives, realities, and consciousness, to access deeper ways of knowing and even profound spiritual realizations

Workshops begin with an explanation of basic principles which lead to successful comedy improvisation and how these principles relate directly to furthering our human possibility. I then involve the participants in improvised games designed to making the most of their self-awareness. I encourage them to work together with a group mind while also recharging the individual's authentic creative possibility. By working in teams, we eliminate the fear of the individual and focus instead on harnessing the energy and excitement of the group. All of the workshops are highly interactive, low pressure and a lot of fun. When people are having fun, they're relaxed. When they're relaxed, they're listening and communicating, and that's when one is able to overcome fears and insecurities in order to reach their full human potential for compassion, wisdom, and a healthy creative flow. By willing to be completely present and open to whatever happens, you will find goodness in any situation.

Combat Stress with Humor

Finding humor in a situation and laughing freely with others can be a powerful remedy to stress. Humor adjusts the meaning of an event so that it is not so overwhelming. Our sense of humor gives us the ability to reconnect to joy, find delight, and to release tension.  Laughter provides a way for debilitating emotions to be released.  When we laugh, we let go.  We open our energy so it starts flowing again.

Labor Day Laughs

Even when we are just make laughing expressions, our bodies produce chemicals that make us feel happier. Humor is very effective treatment for depression which can reduce stress hormone, lower blood pressure, increases muscle flexion, by raising levels of infection-fighting T-cells, disease-fighting proteins which produce disease-destroying antibodies, also triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers. Laughter has numerous beneficial effects on body, mind and spirit giving an overall sense of well being. A positive and hopeful attitude can be rediscovered by releasing our bottled up negative emotions and moving our train of thought to a healthier track.
