Evolving
research suggests that the cause of many health problems may be
associated with prolonged exposure to various toxic substances in
our environment. These substances can be from industrial chemicals
or products, from the foods we eat and from our own altered metabolism
and detoxification systems. The
body's capacity to carry out this complex process of detoxification
has to do in large measure with nutrition. Certain foods can burden
the detoxification machinery of your body, while certain foods and
nutrients can help it. Specific nutrients-vitamins, minerals and
phytonutrients- may be extremely important in influencing how well
your body detoxifies.
Many
cultures around the world have longed believed that toxins accumulate
in the body and can be the underlying cause of a variety of health
problems. For centuries, different therapies have been used to "cleanse"
or detoxify, from simple water fasts to sometimes elaborate regimes
of bowel cleansing, steams, and saunas. Western medicine ignored
or criticized these techniques for years, but has finally started
to recognize detoxification as a vital body process. Research has
substantiated that an individual's ability to detoxify substances
to which they are exposed varies tremendously, and the body's capacity
to detoxify these substances is of critical importance to overall
health. In
our industrialized world, we produce more and more potentially toxic
compounds that find their way into the air we breathe, the water
we drink, and the food we eat. The body must rid itself of these
dangerous substances by transforming and then excreting them through
the lungs, skin, kidneys and bowels. Unfortunately, not all of them
get excreted efficiently-some are circulated back into the bloodstream
and others are stored in various body tissues such as fat tissue.
This is in part due to the increasing levels of toxins we are exposed
to, and may be exacerbated by a lack of nutrients needed to fuel
the detoxification process. Over the years, toxins can build up
in fat, joints, the brain and various other tissues, potentially
leading to a variety of health issues.
The
Red Mountain Spa 7-Night Detox is specifically designed for detoxifying
both the body, mind, and spirit. The following information will
provide you an overview of the services and activities you will
receive during your stay:
Red
Mountain Spa has designed a meal plan that supports healthy detoxification.
We have carefully selected those foods that have a very low allergy
potential and are known detoxifiers. Our goal is to remove any foods
that are known to cause an immune reaction and cause inflammation
and to allow your body the time that it needs to heal.
We
have provided labels for all our food selections which will help
you identify those food items which are supportive of detoxification.
During your detoxification program, you will want to make sure that
you consume only those "detoxification friendly" choices. In addition
to your breakfast, lunch and dinner, you will be consuming a powdered
beverage called Ultraclear.
This beverage is in the form of a wonderful tasting smoothie created
by our culinary staff. Throughout your 7 day detoxification program,
you will consume between 1-3 detoxification smoothies per day which
accompany your regular meals. The following schedule will act as
a guide for your smoothie intake: - Day 1 : Consume 1 smoothie with breakfast.
- Day 2 : Consume 1 smoothie with breakfast and 1 smoothie with
lunch.
- 3-6 : Consume 1 smoothie with breakfast and 1 smoothie
with lunch.
- Day 7 : Consume 1 smoothie with breakfast, 1 smoothie with
lunch and 1 smoothie with dinner.

Role of Detoxification in the Prevention of Chronic Degenerative
Diseases
Every
day we are exposed to a myriad of environmental chemicals and toxins.
The
diet is probably the most substantial route of exposure to environmental
chemicals, including those naturally synthesized by plants or formed
during food storage and preparation. When the body experiences an
overload of environmental chemicals and toxins, the consequences
can manifest in a numbers of way including headache, muscle and
joint pain, fatigue, irritability, depression, mental confusion,
gastrointestinal tract irregularities, cardiovascular irregularities,
flu-like symptoms, or allergic reactions such as hives, stuffy or
runny nose, sneezing, and coughing.
This
lecture discusses the importance of detoxification in the prevention
of disease. Attention will be focused on the importance of nutrition
in detoxification and will discuss dietary strategies to improve
proper detoxification.
